  1. What is included in PEST CABWeb®?
It is intended that PEST CABWeb® will become a valuable resource for anyone working in pest management. The core of PEST CABWeb® is the following set of CABI serials.
    • Bulletin of Entomological Research
    • Review of Plant Pathology
    • Review of Agricultural Entomology
    • Weed Abstracts
    • Nematological Abstracts
    • BioControl News & Information
    • Review of Medical & Veterinary Entomology (from Jan 98)
    • Descriptions of Fungi & Bacteria (from Jan 98)

In addition, subscribers will find links to other useful internet resources, information about CABI's activities in this area and a growing set of other assets. A list of the resources included at the present is available on the Contents page.

  2. Who has access to the journals?
Anyone at an institution (or an individual) where there is a current paid online only or combined print/internet subscription to one or more of these titles. You can only access those journals to which you have a current subscription.
  3. Does it cost any more to use PEST CABWeb® if I already subscribe to the paper journal?
Yes. You must have a combined print/online subscription or an online only subscription to one or more of the journals listed above.
  4. How do I register for PEST CABWeb®?
You need to fill out a PEST CABWeb® Registration Form, which asks for the details of your current subscriptions and the IP address of your computer(s) or network(s). A librarian can register on behalf of an institution or an individual can register for personal access.
  5. Can a subscription agent register on behalf of a customer?
No - the customer MUST register their own subscriptions and sign the registration form.
  6. What restrictions are placed on the usage of PEST CABWeb®?
Terms and conditions for usage of PEST CABWeb® available. Customers are advised to read these carefully and make a copy for their own reference.
  7. How often will PEST CABWeb® be updated?
Each online journal is updated weekly. The rest of the content in PEST CABWeb® is updated on a monthly basis.
  8. What about back issues?
At the beginning of each year, each abstract journal includes a one-year archive of references which increases as the year progresses. Backfile data is removed at the end of each year so that there will always be a minimum of one year's information and a maximum of two year's information available online.
  9. Why am I denied access to the databases?
You may not have a registered IP address - see 'How do I register for PEST CABWeb®?'. However, if you have registered correctly but still cannot get to the relevent databases, it may be that a large number of people are already using them, and our Electronic Reference Library has reached the maximum number of simultaneous users. Please about the problem, and try again later.
When you have finished using the databases, please log out, so that there's no chance of you excluding someone else from getting in!
  10. Why does my system slow down?
Please note that it is intrinsic to the nature of many popular web browsers that form-based searches (such as those used for many databases on the WWW) use up your system resources: to keep your access to the WWW as rapid as possible, you should ensure that you exit from your browser at the end of each day.
  11. What about technical queries?
All technical queries about PEST CABWeb® should be sent to . Any other questions you have about PEST CABWeb® are also .
  12. Is there any limit on the number of IP addresses my Institution can register?
No, as long as those addresses correspond to machines used within the institution. Users may not register the IP address of a computer used at home. The simplest thing to do is to register the entire network address, using wild cards where appropriate. For example, you can register an address like 123.24.*.*, which will cover all machines included within that network.
  13. I've sent in my Registration Form, and paid for my journal subscriptions. What happens now?
Once your IP address has been registered, you will be able to view all the parts of PEST CABWeb® to which you are entitled. You will receive an e-mail message from us confirming receipt of your registration form.  Remember, access is controlled by IP address, so you will not receive a password unless you specifically request one.  If you subscribe to CABCD, CABPESTCD or PlantpathCD, you are eligible for a discount on an online subscription to the PEST CABWeb® journals.  Please contact for more details.
  14. What if I am unable to provide an IP address?
If for some reason you are unable to provide us with an IP address, let us know and we will issue you with a username and password instead. You will be responsible for the control of this password, and any abuse of the PEST CABWeb® Terms and Conditions will result in its being withdrawn.
