WebSPIRS Online Help
- Having entered the Animal Nutrition database section as either a new or existing user click on the "Enter" option.
- Doing so opens up TWO new windows on your browser.
Ignore the first window entitled "CABI Publishing Session in Progress" and use the minimize option to reduce the size of the window.
- Use the window entitled "Select Databases" and place a tick in the box beside "Animal Nutrition".
- Now click on the "Open selected databases" option - the grey button immediately to the left of "Select Databases" at the top of the page;
- You have now arrived at the search engine for the Animal Nutrition database. To start searching simply enter a search term in the box to the right of "Find".
- To finish your search session click on "Logout" in the right hand column of the search window. Doing so closes the search window. Your decision to logout will be confirmed by the window you minimized in (2) above. Click on the option to "Restart" if you want to conduct more searches or use the "X" option to close the window completely and return to feedinfo.com
Some examples of simple and more advanced searches are shown below:
- Single term: lysine
- Term or phrase in a specified field: methionine in ti (ti=title of the article)
- Term or phrase in a limit field: py>1999 (py=publication year and > means published after 1999) or la=german (la=language)
- Term with truncation or wildcards: feed* (where you might want to retrieve results with feeding, feedstuffs etc.) colo?r (where you might be uncertain of spelling)
- Previous search request number: #3 (whilst conducting a number of searches in the same session the software will keep a record of the searches and assign a number to them)
- Letters and numbers combined: 3m
- Phrase: energy metabolism
- Multiple terms combined with operators: pigs or swine or hogs and energy metabolism
The "Help" option in the right hand column provides access to a comprehensive help file on WebSPIRS (the search software used for the database). Clicking on this option will give you the following help options:
