Medfly Parasitoid Rearing

A manual of rearing methods for two braconid parasitoids of medfly (Mediterranean fruit fly: Ceratitis capitata) has been prepared by the USDA-APHIS Guatemala Medfly Station, based on experience gained in studies of the parasitoids by the MOSCAMED programme and the regional USDA-APHIS office. The manual, available in English and Spanish, gives details of rearing operations for Diachasmimorpha tryoni and D. longicaudata, and is aimed to serve as a basis for future activities for programmes in this field throughout the World.

Mycology Course

The CABI B ioscience UK Centre (Egham) [formerly the International Mycological Institute; IMI] Inter-national Course on the Identification of Fungi of Agricultural and Environmental Significance will this year be on 10 August - 18 September. This course, which has been run for the last 19 years with more than 230 past participants from 65 countries, aims to give training in the classification and identification of economically important groups of microfungi, with particular attention being given to those commonly associated with plant diseases and difficult to identify. Both temperate and tropical examples are included in all sections. With prior notice of special interests, additional coverage can normally be provided as required. Training will include lectures and discussions but is largely practical in nature. The course fee of UKĀ£3200 includes self-catering accommodation.
